A rthur F. Scoby, 92, of Sabetha, Kansas died Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the Apostolic Christian Home.
Art was born to Estella (McClanahan) and Otis Scoby on October 24, 1927. Art attended Franklin country school a few years and then Sabetha High School, graduating in 1945.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the Navy V5 Aviation Cadet Program. Art participated in basic training in Pensacola, Florida. Following basic training he attended Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and Kansas University. He then returned home and started farming.
Art married Helen Stoller on April 8, 1951, and they lived on a farm northeast of Sabetha where they raised three children.
Art was active in the Sabetha community and a member of the First Congregational Church and the NorthRidge Church in Sabetha.
Art was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Helen; his parents; his two brothers, Harold Scoby and Kenneth Scoby; and his daughter-in-law, Louise Scoby.
He is survived by his two sons, Jim Scoby (Laura) of Morrill, KS and Larry Scoby of Phoenix, AZ; his daughter, Jane Riedl (Wayne) of Mission, KS; his brother, Don Scoby (Glenna) of Fargo, ND; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 11, 2019 at the NorthRidge Church in Sabetha, KS. The family will greet friends Sunday, November 10, 2019 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Home or the Sabetha Community Hospital, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, KS 66534.
