Beth Hook

Beth Lorraine Hook, 86, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012. She was born February 24, 1926 at Lake City, IA, the daughter of Mabel Clare (Stout) Groves and Charles Wesley Groves. She was a graduate of Stephens College, Columbia, MO. Following graduation she was employed by Trans World Airlines, Kansas City, MO.
On October 16, 1948, she married Boyd Lanning Hook. They shared a passion for community service in the IA and FL cities where they lived. She contributed volunteer time and energy to the YMCA of Mason City, IA where she and her family lived for many years. A devoted member of Methodist churches all her life, her most recent involvement was at First United Methodist Church, Englewood, FL. She was a member of PEO Chapter EY, Venice, FL having served as President. Beth was particularly committed to The State College of Florida Foundation as a board member. In addition to volunteer civic work she enjoyed a career in real estate while living in FL. At the time of her death, she was a resident of the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Beatrice Jane Groves. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Boyd Hook; daughters, Shelle McCoy (Michael) of Topeka, KS and Lori Austin (James) of Scottsdale, AZ. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Tully McCoy (Nicole), Anne McCoy Wilson (Brian), Sara Austin Rulewicz (Chris) and Charles Austin; a step-grandson, Jamie Austin (Jennifer) and eight great grandchildren.
