Curtis Gilmore

Curtis Lee Gilmore, 87, Seneca, died Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Life Care Center of Seneca.

He was born January 9, 1921 the son of William Curtis and Marion Wetmore Gilmore near Oneida, Kansas. He was graduated from Oneida High School in 1939.

He was a farmer and stockman and lived in Oneida from 1942-1953 and then he lived on the family farm until 2000, when he moved to Life Care in Seneca. He owned and operated Curt's Cafe in Oneida from 1962-1967. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 65 years; having been a member in Oneida until it merged with the Lodge in Seneca. Mr. Gilmore was active with the Oneida Cemetery Board, the Gilman Township Board and the Oneida High School Alumni Association.

He was married to Naomi Branaum on November 8, 1942 at Seneca. She preceded him in death February 15, 1998. He is also preceded in death by a son Robert Gilmore who was stillborn and a grandson, Curtis Gordon Gilmore who died in February of 2007.

He is survived by a daughter Linda Lanning and her husband Bruce of Topeka, KS, a son Gary Gilmore and his wife Anita Gilmore of Olathe, KS; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 23 at the Popkess Mortuary in Seneca, KS. Rev. Jan Todd will conduct the services. Nancy Gafford will play the organ and Cyril Steinlage will sing "In the Garden" and "Amazing Grace". Burial will be in the Oneida Cemetery.

A family visitation will be one hour before the services at the funeral home.

Memorials are being left to the Life Care Center of Seneca or to the Alzheimer's Association and may be sent in care of the Popkess Mortuary, Seneca, KS.
