Darwin Ellsworth Skillett

Darwin E. Skillett, 86, of Centralia, Kansas passed away on Thursday May 4, 2023, at the Eastridge Nursing Home in Centralia, Kansas.  He was surrounded by loved ones and lifted up in prayer.

Darwin was born on July 27, 1936, in Axtell, Kansas, the son of Bert and Hulda (Polson) Skillett. He was an only child and graduated from Centralia High School.  Darwin was united in marriage to Joan Skillett (Barnes) on August 30, 1958, in Vermillion, Kansas.  Darwin and Joan were blessed with five children, Greg (Sarah) Skillett of Lenexa, Kansas, Gary (Karen) Skillett of Shawnee, Kansas, Darwin (Bub) Skillett of Independence, Kansas, Dennis Skillett of Centralia, Kansas, and Doug Skillett (deceased).  Darwin was blessed with ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

After high school graduation, Darwin became an owner/operator of a custom combine crew traveling throughout most of the Midwest.  He also, was the owner of Skillett Redi-E-Mix Concrete in Centralia for most of his working career.  Darwin was a member of Shriners International and Masons organization.  He served the community of Centralia as a member of the city council, and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Centralia.

Darwin was preceded in death by his wife, Joan and his son, Doug.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday June 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Centralia Cemetery.  The Honorary Pallbearers are Dave Walters, Denny Schell, Jack Boyle, Lowell Shirley, Bill Broxterman, and Kent Stowell.  Following the service, a lunch will be served at the Centralia Community Church – West in Centralia.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Eastridge Nursing Home and the Centralia Community Church – West, both of Centralia sent in care of Popkess Memorial Chapel, 814 Castle, Seneca, Kansas 66538.
