Dolores Jean Althouse, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas.
Dolores was born on October 27, 1937, in Hiawatha, Kansas, to Orval and Hazel Parker Glenn. Her family later moved to Sabetha, where she attended elementary, junior high, and part of her high school years. During this time, Dolores learned to drive using a friend’s car, which led to her meeting Frank Althouse. In 1955, Dolores’ family relocated to Ottawa, Kansas, where Dolores completed her senior year of high school. After graduation, she moved to Lawrence, Kansas, and worked at the University of Kansas.
On June 3, 1956, Dolores married the love of her life, Frank Althouse, following his service in the United States Army. They lived in Lawrence for three years before settling on their farm south of Sabetha in March of 1959. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and raising their two children, Kathy and Doug.
Dolores was a dedicated mother, homemaker, and farmhand who tirelessly supported her family and community. She was an active member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, where she was instrumental in organizing and running the Vacation Bible School for many years. Dolores’s kind spirit and willingness to serve extended to her role as an election day polling office volunteer. Her reputation as a kind and dependable neighbor and friend, who was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever she was need, will never be forgotten.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; and her two brothers, Paul and Robert Glenn.
Dolores is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Steve) Remmers of Olathe, Kansas; her son, Doug (Carrie) Althouse of Cimarron, Kansas; her three grandchildren; her four great-grandchildren; and her brother, Allen Glenn of Seattle, Washington.
