Don Mack Matney, 64, of Berryton, Kansas died Tuesday, September 9, 2008. Don was born on October 5, 1943, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Nellie Lavin and Russell Matney. His mother remarried and he was raised by his step-father, James Plumberg. Don grew up in Topeka and graduated from Hayden High School in 1961. He served two years in Vietnam, from July 1965 to July 1967, as a member of the United States Army. Don lived in the Sabetha area for over 30 years. He worked for Wenger Manufacturing as a machinist for many years. His real love was for the open road and he spent the last 20 years as a truck driver for several national transportation companies including Keim Transportation, Bennett Trucking, and most recently Lone Star Milk Transport.
Don was preceded in death by his son, Craig Matney, in August 1996. He is survived by his daughter Vonda and her husband Kyle Brock of Waukee, Iowa; his parents, Nellie and James Plumberg of Berryton; his sister,Devon Plumberg of Shawnee; two grandchildren, Victoria Brock and Justus Brock; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 13, 2008, at 1:30 P.M. at the Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka, with a visitation one hour prior to the funeral. A visitation will be held Friday evening, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Interment will be at Lynn Creek Cemetery in Berryton. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice and sent in care of the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha.
