Gene Alfred Hinton, age 75, passed away Tuesday evening, August 7, 2012 at his home in Topeka. He was born June 9, 1937 in Bern, Kansas the son of Gottlieb and Delphia Boydston Hinton. Gene graduated from Fairview High School in 1956. He then served in the National Guard while farming with his family in Brown County. Gene married Arlena Gharst on October 19, 1995. Gene worked at Goodyear Tire for 23 years. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Glenda Barben and Delores Banks. He is survived by his wife, Arlena of the home in Topeka; three sons, Duane (Wanda) Hinton, Larry (Belinda) Hinton and Terry Gharst, all of Topeka; two daughters, Linda Ellis of South Carolina and Dawn (Steve) Means of Topeka; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Monday, August 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sabetha Cemetery. He will lie in state Sunday from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home with visitation from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka or the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.
