James "Jim" Walter Van Peyma

James “Jim” Walter Van Peyma, 86, of Sabetha, Kansas died on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the Sabetha Manor in Sabetha. 

Jim was born on April 3, 1938, in Kansas City, Kansas to James J. and Margie (Bates) Van Peyma. When he was three and a half years old, he went to live with his aunt and uncle, Floyd and Myrtle Haxton. After graduating from high school, Jim served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 and served eight years in the Kansas Army National Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1963. 

Jim married Beverly A. Inglis on December 26, 1960, in Bern, Kansas. They made their home in Sabetha and Jim worked for USD #441 Sabetha as a mechanic and transportation supervisor until his retirement in 2004. Jim was baptized and was a member of the Sabetha Church of Christ in Sabetha. 

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his aunt and uncle, Floyd and Myrtle Haxton; his wife, Beverly Van Peyma, on December 31, 2018; and his daughter, Brenda Van Peyma on October 10, 2023.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Shari Van Peyma of Sabetha, and a family friend, Scott Harvey of Fairview.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Jim will lie in state at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery with military honors.
