Keith Brooks

Keith Allen Brooks, 72, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at the Ap-ostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, surrounded by family and loved ones.

He was born in Sabetha on July 23, 1935. He attended school in Sabetha and graduated from Sabetha High School, where he was an outstanding athlete. After high school he attended Ottawa University in Ottawa, where he was an outstanding football player; he still holds that school's individual rushing record of 3,360 years for 1953-57. He was inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame in 1994.

Upon graduation from Ottawa, Keith enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.

When he returned from service to his country, he worked for Hopp Welding in Sabetha. He worked for Rockwell International/Atchison Casting, retiring in 1997 after 32 years of service. He was a member of United Steel Workers of America and the Ottawa Braves Hall of Fame. Upon retirement, he enjoyed being with his family and relaxing. In recent years, because of his fail-ing health, he was placed in the Apostolic Christian Home.
Preceding him in death was his longtime mate/wife/friend, Lucille Moore of Sabetha.

Survivors include his mother, Lela Brooks of Sabetha; a brother, Ronald Brooks Sr., of Sabetha; four children, Linda Moore of Aurora, Colo., and Alfred and Keith Moore and Eileen Washington, all of Sabetha; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Popkess Funeral Home in Sabetha. Burial will follow at the Sabetha Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
