K eith “Butch” Rogers, 67, of Fairview, Kansas passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 at the St. Francis Hospital in Topeka surrounded by family.
Butch was born May 26, 1951 in Sabetha, Kansas the son of Lyle Douglas and Alta Mae (Justis) Rogers. Butch attended Fairview High School until May of 1966 when the school closed. He graduated from Sabetha High School in 1969. Butch worked with Burt Koch during his high school years going on wheat harvesting crews. He also worked two years at KDOT right after his high school graduation. He was employed by Dave Thieme and Richard Werner for several years doing construction and roofing work.
His main love in life besides his family was his business “Checkers” that he owned for 20 plus years. He also loved his cattle, dogs, and cats. Butch was known for his famous “Butchie Burgers” and steaks. People from far and near came to Checkers to enjoy Butch’s cooking and hometown hospitality. Butch didn’t know a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Alta; a brother, Kent Rogers; two brother-in-law’s, Larry Meyer and Lyle Edelman; and a nephew, Tad Melichar.
He is survived by his four sisters, Joyce Meyer and Lyla Edelman both of Sabetha, KS, Turi (Al) Melichar of Caldwell, KS, and Nila (Dave) Swett of Sanford, ME; a sister-in-law, Sondra Rogers of Manhattan, KS; two brothers, Brad (Marie) Rogers of Emporia, KS, and Dal (Diane) Wenger of Topeka, KS; seven nieces and nine nephews; and 16 great nieces, and 10 great nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Fairview Community Center from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Fairview, KS. Casual wear is requested by the family. Private family inurnment will be made in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brown County Humane Society, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia Street, Sabetha, KS 66534.
