Marianne Meyer

M arianne Meyer, 70, of Sabetha died Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Sabetha Hospital.  She was born on November 6, 1941 in Buffalo, New York, daughter of John B. and Anna M. (Redmond) Addeo.  She graduated from West Seneca Central High School, attended Canisius College, graduating from Sisters of Charity Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo, New York in 1962.  She enjoyed a 45 year career as a registered nurse until she retired from the Apostolic Christian Home in 2007.  She assisted in establishing and operating the first Free Clinic of Colorado Springs in 1971.  She worked in the following specialties:  KSU Lafene Student Health Center, Medical-Surgical Nursing, orthopedics, psychiatry and geriatrics.  She loved her work and her patients.

She married Donald B. Root in 1966 and they later divorced. In 1975 she married Donald K. Meyer.  In 1986, she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was a member of the Falls City, Nebraska congregation and loyally served her God, Jehovah, her family, neighbors and friends.  She especially enjoyed gardening, canning, flowers and house plants and loved to propagate and share them with others.

She was preceded in death by her father, John B. Addeo; a son, Abraham D. Meyer.  She is survived by her mother, Anna Addeo of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; her husband, Donald of Sabetha; a son, Eric B. Root (Theresa) of Troy, Kansas; a brother, John L. Addeo (Barbara) of Orchard Park, New York; a sister, Lucille M. Ross (Vaughn) of New Stanton, Pennsylvania; daughter-in-law, Sara Meyer of Manhattan, Kansas; four grandchildren, Owen, Anna Maria, Kellen and Sophia and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha.  A visitation will be Tuesday evening 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha.  Memorial contributions may be made to a charity yet to be designated by the family sent in care of the funeral home.
