Marie Weiss

M arie C. Weiss, age 86, passed peacefully on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at the nursing home in Aiken, SC, where she resided for the past nine years.  A survivor of breast cancer late in life, Mrs. Weiss eventually succumbed to heart failure.

Mrs. Weiss, an only child, was born in Hammond, IN, to Carl and Mabel (Coan) Noftsger.  Marie attended vocational schooling for secretarial services and worked the overnight shift as a nurses’ aide at the Mendota (IL) Community Hospital for several years.

Oliver D. and Marie C. Weiss were married on May 1, 1948, and remained married for 57 years before Oliver’s passing on March 28, 2005. They resided in Mendota, IL, for 30 years and helped to start the Mendota Bible Church.  After retirement, Marie and Oliver moved to Sabetha, KS, where they were members of the Apostolic Christian Church.

Marie is survived by five children including Carol Jones of Sherbrooke, Canada, Steven Weiss of Augusta, GA, Cheryl Sell of Wauconda, IL, Kevin Weiss of Hendersonville, NC, and David Weiss of Round Hill, VA, along with five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.  Marie was a loving wife and mother.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 15, at Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha, KS, with visitation at 9:00 a.m. and the funeral service at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will take place immediately after services at the Bern Apostolic Christian Cemetery rural Sabetha, KS.   Memorial gifts can be made to the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, KS, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
