Mavis Louise Meyer, 80, of Sabetha died Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
She was born at Sabetha, KS on December 3, 1926, the daughter of John P. and Marie Frieden Strahm. After graduating from Bern High School in 1944, she obtained her teaching certificate from Emporia Teachers College, and taught one year at Eureka country school before her marriage. She later was a librarian aid at the Bern School. Her greatest joy was raising her children and loving her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On May 19, 1946 she married Louis Meyer, Jr. at Sabetha, KS. They experienced their salvation together and became members of the Bern Apostolic Christian Church a year and a half after their marriage. She lived her entire married life in the farmhouse where she and Louis raised their family together. He died on March 27, 2005.
Survivors include two sons, Louis Meyer and his wife Cathy of Chesterfield, MO., and Judd Meyer and his wife Carol of Sabetha; five daughters, Mary and husband Terry Farney of Towanda, Marcia and husband David Reist of Highland, Sally and husband Randy Reist of Bartlesville, OK, Nanette and husband Terry Farwell of Seneca, and Trudy and husband James Barnes of Moberly, MO.; a son-in-law, Carl Morris and his wife Denise of Columbia, MO; 28 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Sharon Meyer Morris on March 21, 1998, brothers Robert and Oscar Strahm, and a sister Pearl Stoller.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 16 at the Bern Apostolic Christian Church, with family visitation Wednesday evening at Popkess Mortuary from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be at the Bern Apostolic Church cemetery.
Casketbearers will be grandsons, Jason Morris, Thad and Thatcher Reist, Jonathan and David Farney, Louis and Zachary Meyer, Nolan and Rodney Farwell, and Jason Barnes.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bern Apostolic Christian Church for World Relief Mission Projects, or the Sabetha Community Hospital, in care of Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.
