S tella Mavis Lucas born April 1, 1926 to Walter and Stella Mae (Lancaster) Heiniger departed this earth February 8, 2018.
Mavis was united in marriage to John Harland Lucas on January 27, 1946. They farmed in the Oneida area until the late 80’s. To this union were born four daughters. Mavis was led to Christ by her mother-in-law, Rev. Ruth Lucas and faithfully served her Lord each day. John and Mavis loved the word of God and sowed the Word into many Sunday School students at the United Brethren in Christ Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother; her husband, John; one daughter, Christine Buttner; baby sister, Wilma Jeane Heiniger and two son-in-laws.
She is survived by her sisters, Evelyn (Marvin) McFall and Virginia Bauman; three daughters, Patsy Queen of Kansas City, KS, Lora (Ed) Key and Sandy (Steve) Kesler both of Sabetha, KS; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Monday, February 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha, KS. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to service time at the funeral home. Mavis will be lying in state on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha. Interment will be made at the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Brethren in Christ Church, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, KS 66534.
